Diego Armando Maradona spoke of the World Cup
What would be a good World Cup?
That question, the one we were waiting for, had a concrete answer: “To win it.” Diego Armando Maradona faced the reporters with a smile, he had been under terrible pressure due to having to cut the list to define the 23 players who will represent Argentina in South Africa 2010.
The coach confirmed that having to take players out of the list “had him badly”. “I remember I was also was angry with Menotti when he left me out for the Argentina 1978 World Cup… Many of those who are not here have the merit to. For example: leaving Pochito Lavezzi out was a pain in the ass … But that’s over. Now I have at 23 players. With the 23 we are going to fight. I do not think anybody has trouble with wearing the shirt. ”
As for the chances of victory, Diego said “We are neither candidates nor favorites. If they say you are a candidate, you are fucked! Let Spain be the candidate.”
When asked what would be a bad World Cup, Maradona said “Getting eliminated in the first round. That’s failure to me. It hurt me very much what happened in the World Cup 2002, because of the players, the coach too … ”
There was no shortage of questions about Messi, the coach declared about his status in training today “(Messi) is tremendous. You see it in the celebrations of Barcelona yelling “Come on Argentina la c. ..” this is really great. He’s come taking everything seriously. Now, that’s endurance.”
