Senate approves statement repudiating the attacks against the press
The Senate passed a resolution expressing a “strong repudiation” to attacks and persecution against journalists and media that have been conducted in recent days.
They also expressed their opposition to “any kind of conduct that affects the free access to public information because they constitute acts infringing on the expression freedom and the right to information enshrined in the Constitution and international treaties on human rights signed by Argentina.”
In the same vein, the Senate Media Systems Commission asked the President Cristina Fernández to stop the call for tomorrow to “public trial” against journalists, led by Hebe de Bonafini, president of Plaza de Mayo Mothers.
Journalists Joaquin Morales Sola, Nelson Castro, Magdalena Ruiz Guinazu, Ricardo Kirchsbaum, Eduardo van der Kooy, Daniel Santoro, Edgardo Alfano and Marcelo Bonelli from Clarin Group participated in the commission.
The committee cited the Federal Communication Services chairman Gabriel Mariotto, and also Cabinet chief, Aníbal Fernández, to give the necessary explanations as he is responsible of the National Media.
