Scientifics discovered ice on the asteroid 24 Themis

Astronomers of the Astrophysical Institute of the Canary Islands have discovered that the asteroid formerly known as 24 Themis has ice on its surface, a discovery that may contribute to the investigation of two key factors for humanity, the origin of the universe and where does the water came from.

Scientists have declared that they thought that asteroids could have ice or water on its surface, but this is the first time that they are able to confirm it.

This discovery reinforces the hypothesis that states that the water could have come from outer space, promoting life in a primitive state. Astronomers argued about this theory for years because they knew that water would not resist the period of the Earth where everything was magma. Scientists say it may have been a barrage of millions of years after the water was eventually settled.

The asteroid was created, according to scientific studies, 4,500 million years ago, at the same time that the Earth was created. Except suspicions of some components, is the first time that water is detected on it.

Despite having the hypothesis that water could have come from asteroids, many experts argued that it would not stand the temperature of them and would evaporate. However this discovery shows that the deposits of water or ice can be also inside the asteroid.

The photograph is not about the asteroid 24 Themis, but it represents the layers that every asteroid has.
