Influenza vaccine shortages in Buenos Aires pharmacies

The trivalent vaccine in short supply and national chain pharmacies as the neighborhood confirmed this data, while they reporting that there is no specific date for the renewal of stock.

“Ten days ago we were given 600 doses and they sold right away. I do not know when the providers will give us more”, said an employee.

It is estimated that the renewal of the dose will be in smaller quantities and with the high demand; they will not be in the market for long.

The Pharmaceutical Association of La Plata confirmed this information and gives two reasons why this phenomenon occurs: the problems of international production and irregularities in the distribution in the country.

Silvia Lammek, vice president of the organization, said the website’s Day: “Right now there is no pharmacy in the city having a trivalent vaccine. The few doses that were received a few weeks ago sold out immediately. There is a problem supply fund that has to do with its production. But this was coupled with an irregular in distribution management. Remittances were not distributed evenly. They are delivered only to large purchasers, and there was a chaos: people do not now know where to find them. “

Since the trivalent vaccine is only available in pharmacies, specialists recommend that persons belonging to risk groups be vaccinated with the monovalent one, that only protects the patient against influenza A and is available for free in the public hospitals.
