Iceland: People evacuated due to the volcanic eruption warning can now return to their homes

The authorities reported that “The people evacuated from their homes as a precaution in the south of Iceland because of the eruption of a volcano this Sunday were allowed to return to their homes.”

Civil Security said: “The volcano erupted on Sunday morning in southern Iceland forcing the authorities to evacuate 600 people from the area.

Kjartan Thorkelsson, local police chief announced that “we’ve authorized all the inhabitants to return to their homes, with the exception of 14 farms.

And added that “All roads are now open, but we said to the people to avoid driving unless its necessary” and that “officially, the situation is still dangerous due to the volcanic eruption warning”.

It was fully restored at around 1600 GMT, the air traffic in the island after it was suspended because of the rash.

It began shortly after midnight in the Eyjafallajokull Glacier region and the main access route was closed.
