Bolivia organized a telethon for the victims of Chile and Haiti
Official sources reported that “The telethon organized by the authorities of Bolivia to help the victims of the earthquakes in Chile and Haiti raised over a million dollars.”
Oscar Coca, Minister of the Presidency, participates in the telethon that will end at midnight today and collected 7.4 million Bolivians, more than one million dollars.
Ministers, ambassadors from other countries, Bolivian businessmen and bankers attended the Colosseum “July Borrelli” of La Paz to make their contributions.
Evo Morales, along with his vice president Alvaro Garcia Linera announced that they will donate half their wages of one month to the campaign entitled “Chile and Haiti needs you.”
Morales gave 7500 Bolivians, about $ 1071 dollars and Garcia Linera 7250 Bolivians, about $1035 dollars, as reported by the Bolivian Information Agency (ABI).
Garcia Linera told to the media present that “the Bolivian people has always been characterized for their solidarity and for sharing the little that they have.”
And that “the ammount achieved, a million dollars, was already a great contribution” further added, “it will increase even more this evening.”
Bolivia had already sent 120 tons of bottled water to Chile and brought to Haiti in January, 50 tonnes of rice, as well as blood and plasma.
