Maradona has not the fault, but Grondona who appointed him as coach, says Pele

This was the view of one of the greatest figures in world about the Argentina’s low level in South American qualifying for the World Cup South Africa 2010.

Argentina qualified for the 2010 World Cup in the last game of the tournament, due to the defeats against Brazil, Paraguay, Ecuador and Bolivia.

“Maradona, as everyone says has no experience. It was the first time he coached, but the leaders of Argentina are responsible because they appointed him as coach” Pele said during a presentation of the Copa Libertadores 2010 sponsor in Mexico City.

Soccer star also considered: “Maradona still has a long way before coaching the team”.

Nevertheless he explained that Argentina is a candidate to win the World Cup. “In Europe we have Spain that has been champion, in America I think Brazil has a great team, and specially Argentina, we have to see how it looks, these are teams that always have a tradition of winning,” said Pele.
