Bolivia: Young boy tried to castrate himself

A 17-years-old boy from Bolivia, researched through the Internet how to remove his genitals and tried to operate himself, because he was determined to become a woman.

The minor, almost bled to death, but he wanted to change his sex and his family did not accept it.

The young boy was not happy with his sexuality, and decided to cut off his testicles, causing a severe bleeding.

Doctors at the Hospital of clinics in La Paz, were not surprised by the case, and according to the head of the area of Urology, Beckep Barragan, they had had other patients with similar problems although there was one who tried to remove the entire penis.

The boy applied to himself local anesthesia and began the procedure with the help of a mirror, but when he made the first cut he started to bleed and could not continue.

The young said he “wanted to cut off his testicles to have more feminine features like a thinner skin, a thin voice and prevent the growth of pubic hair.”

The doctor said that “although it is painful to do these practices, are usually are carried out in desperation.”
