‘Pechito’ Lopez’ F1 dream in jeopardy

With tears in his eyes Peter Windsor, USF1 team owner, confirmed to Felipe McGough and Lopez’ father that the team will not meet the deadlines and that not only they will miss the first three races, but most likely, the entire championship.

Bernie Ecclestone, the boss of the F1, got tired of repeating: USF1 and Campos Meta will probably not arrive in time for next season.

USF1 problems became more complicated yesterday when their main sponsor, Chad Hurley (Co-founder of You Tube) withdrew his support because of the lack of progress in the development of the cars of the U.S. team. Windsor can not afford to pay Cosworth the motors and the dream seems to collapse.

But not everything look so bad for Jose Maria Lopez, as his closest people (McGough and his father) are moving with haste and already travelled to Europe to negotiate directly with Ecclestone the inclusion of the Argentine on another team.

It could be Campos, who could change its name depending on a new sponsor to be announced shortly, and for now, has only confirmed driver Bruno Senna, or Stefan GP, property of the Serbian millionaire and close friend of Ecclestone, Zoran Stefanovic.

Stefan GP can be directly replacing  USF1 and has already shipped spare parts to Bahrain ‘just in case’.

Ecclestone wants the Argentine in the F1 and his good relationship with McGough can be key. The best thing that could happen to ‘Pechito’, who is in perfect physical condition, is that as soon as possible, is that Stefan replace USF1 as soon as possible where he could get a spot, alongside Japanese Kasuki Nakajima, who is already confirmed.

Meanwhile, Peter Windsor will have to forget the $ 2 million which the Argentine Government was going to contribute, of which 900 thousand have already been deposited.

A source close to the Cordoba driver told La Voz del Interior: “Maybe this is for the best and ‘Pechito’ ends in a car running better than the U.S. F1“. Let’s hope so.

I feel sorry for Mr. Lopez and his countrymen who were scammed into this USF1 deal. As of today, a few people have personally visited the USF1 site in Charlotte, NC and have confirmed that all work has stopped. Hopefully the good people in Argentina will be able to recover their monies from Mr. Windsor and his partners.
