Linda Hamilton says “Titanic” was the cause of her divorce with Cameron

Actress Linda Hamilton, who was married to Avatar’s director James Cameron, told for the first time about her married life with Cameron and how the film “Titanic” influenced their separation.

Cameron and Hamilton broke up after the eleven Oscar winner film. Hamilton has until now a relationship with the actress Suzy Amis, who knew during the film.

But according to Hamilton, it was Cameron’s devotion to the 1997 epic film which played a much more damaging role.

In an interview with British newspaper The Sun, the 53 year-old actress said: ” Titanic was the mistress he left me for”

“He was the kind of man who really would rather be at work with the mistress than at home with the wife.

Then, she gave details of how “Titanic” negative influence on the couple:

“The success of that film was so huge but he couldn’t stop talking about how successful it was.

“Christmas dinner with the Cameron family would involve everyone talking about their ‘experience’ of Titanic, instead of just getting together and being a family”.

Nevertheless, Hamilton admits that Cameron has changed tremendously in the last 12 years since Titanic.

“He is finally at peace with his Hollywood status”, she said.

“He’s grown up. This Christmas we were all together and it was really great to see, 12 years later – with a film just as successful – Jim just being daddy to all the children and acting very charming. He didn’t have to say Avatar, Avatar, Avatar”

“We had a very stormy relationship. It’s not just that Jim was a hard person to get along with, I was ridiculously hard to get along with too”

“We were just really not meant to be together”, admitted the actress

Linda also remembered how Cameron got the idea of “Avatar” 15 years ago, and how at that moment she feared that there was no market for the film.

“I was afraid there would be a limited audience no matter how great the film”.

“I’m so glad I was wrong”, she said “He is a complete genius”

Linda Hamilton met James Cameron in the film “Terminator”, and married in 1997. They have a daughter together, Josephine.
