Macri and Duhalde criticized the president for calling off her trip to China
Former president Eduardo Duhalde, the presidential candidate for next year, said that Cristina’s decision was “unnecessary” and that she ends up favouring the vice president’s stance. Meanwhile, Mauricio Macri called the decision ”unfortunate.”
“It’s an unnecessary measure, apart from the sad fact that the relationship between the President and Cobos is getting more sour every day,” said Duhalde on the radio.
Regarding the decision to call off her trip to China, he said: “It is unnecessary, even having been in charge of the Presidency, Cobos would never take any decision without the Chief Cabinet’s consent,” he said and then wondered: What minister is going to be willing to endorse Cobos’ signature?”
Meanwhile Mauricio Macri, head of the city government, “deeply” lamented the decision to suspend the visit to China as he believes that China could be ”an important strategic partner for the country in the coming years.”
He added: “The first thing I did when I took over as head of government was flying to China.”
Duhalde said the government’s actions against Julio Cobos have an adverse effect, contrary to that sought by the oficialism. “These aggressive attitudes benefit Cobos,” he said.
Duhalde told how this fight can never be well regarded abroad. The former president said on his last trip to the United States, that the diplomats were puzzled by the domestic political situation:
“Everyone wonders why and how is it possible that a vice president be campaigning against the President,” said the former Buenos Aires governor.
“I explained that this comes from long: first, neglecting not only the vice president but all the ministers, which creates abusive attitudes which won’t end well,” he said.
Referring to Chief of Staff Aníbal Fernández, Duhalde criticized his ongoing confrontations against political and social sectors.
For Duhalde, “this kind of attitude of reproach by the officials is the government’s responsibility.”
