Opposition leaders call for the impeachment of the Cabinet Chief

The major figures of all main anti-government parties, requested the impeachment of Cabinet Chief  Anibal Fernandez for “affecting the principle of judicial independence.”

The purpose of this trial is to remove the officer and the bill was signed by the four main caucuses of the Chamber of Deputies: Oscar Aguad (UCR), Civic Coalition’s leader Elisa Carrio, the federal Peronist Felipe Sola, and Federico Pinedo (PRO)

Pinedo said the trial is justified because “the incredible thing is that Anibal Fernandez gave instructions to the police not to obey the orders of a Court, claiming the rulings were unconstitutional”.

The move against the Cabinet Chief would be carried out over two issues: he is involvement in the fight for the Airline Workers’ Union and conflict with the presidential decrees to use the reserves of the Central Bank and remove its president.

In the first case, Fernandez demanded the police to prevent a judge from carrying out an eviction.

The second accusation is that he sent a patrol car to the house of Judge Maria Jose Sarmiento (the judge of the Central Bank case) when she had not requested it. That same day a policeman rang the doorbell at the home of the judge and told her the Cabinet Chief  and President Cristina Kirchner sent her the appeal.

These attitudes were interpreted by Sarmiento as daunting.
