Independiente wins summer tournament in Salta
“Tolo” Gallego’s team won the northern three-team tournament by beating River Plate3- 2 with two goals by Ignacio Piatti and one by Walter Acevedo. For Leonardo Astrada’s side scored Gustavo Bou and Ariel Ortega.
River Plate presented a young team plus Ortega, and at times dominated Independiente that lined up its alleged starters, but the ‘Red ones’ got ahead with a good goal from outside the area by Acevedo.
But River’s boys kept cool and turned the scoreboard, first through Gustavo Bou and then through Ariel Ortega with a header at the far post. Independiente’s defense was lousy in general.
But for Independiente’s coach Gallego every minute counts and he led his team on to win the match. Ignacio Piatti came off the bench to score twice and give the victory to the Avellaneda squad. The former Gimnasia LP is irregular but can be decisive when he appears .
Good test for both teams. Independiente had a plus stealing the tournament from Racing and River’s, reserve players demonstrated that they can make a good replacement for the starters. ‘El Burrito’ Ortega is in good shape and it seems he can have a good season.
