Del Potro defeats Verdasco

After beating Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in three sets, Juan Martin has a chance to qualify to the semi-finals of the Barclay’s World Tour Finals held in London. The score was 6-4 3-6 7-6(7-1). He will play Roger Federer next thursday to decide qualyfication.

The number 5 seeded Argentine managed to take the first set 6-4 but lost the second 3-6. All square for both players who entered the game struggling with their physical condition.

In the third set Juan Martin took advantage quickly and had a match-point with the set 5-2 while Verdasco served. But Verdasco made a comeback and tied 5-5. Both players kept their service games and ended up in a tiebreaker. It was easy for Del Potro there and picked it 7-1 to win the game.

Thursday’s meeting against Federer will be a nice rematch of the last U.S. Open final, where the Argentinewon his first major title.
