Venezuela listed as the “most corrupt country” in Latin America

The global anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International revealed on Tuesday that Venezuela is one of the world’s most corrupt countries and the worst in Latin America after being ranked 162nd.

By contrast, Chile and Uruguay are considered role models, since both are ranked 25th, followed by Costa Rica (43rd) and Cuba (61st).

According to the ranking, New Zealand, with 9.4 points, is the least corrupt country in the world. Denmark, which led the ranking in 2008, now holds second place, with 9.3 points. Singapore, with 9.2 points, comes third.

Meanwhile, the ranking has revealed that the world’s most corrupt countries are Somalia, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Sudan.

The report, measures the perceived level of public-sector corruption in 180 countries and is based on 13 different expert and business surveys conducted by 10 independent organizations
