Bilardo wants to be AFA’s president and will be helped by Grondona

The national team’s secretary and former director said that he always thought of being AFA’s president, and he believes that the current president, on for 30 years, Julio Grondona, will help him to reach the position.

Anyway, the “conk” said that if he had intended to do so now he would have “submitted to elections”.

“I want to be AFA’s president, have no doubt. I believe that Julio (Grondona) will help me, same as Blatter helped  Platini (to lead UEFA), and as they’re helping Beckenbauer”, said Bilardo in Ezeiza before departing to Spain, where the national team will face Spain’s team.

The former coach of Mexico 86′ World Cup revealed that he’s having good talks with Diego Maradona, despite the differences that emerged recently.

He also said that some believe that the embrace in Montevideo  wasn’t truthful. “I don’t know why”.

“We also embraced in the River’s changing rooms after the match against Peru, and there was no witness,” he said.

The team’s manager said that he was very worried before qualyfing for South Africa 2010. “For us it would have been a great loss if we didn’t make it to the World Cup. How do you explain that to youngsters?”

Maradona questioned the manager’s role and accused him of taking part in a plot to lead AFA.
