US: Zelaya should “stop behaving like a movie star”
Lewis Amselem, US representative of OEA, specially asked the deposed president Manuel Zelaya to stop behaving like a “movie star”.
Although in general he has criticized the government’s decisions made by de facto Micheletti, the U.S. representative is now critical of Zelaya’s attitude, who in his view should behave like a leader and give clear messages to express his view points in a peaceful manner”, “stop making accusations and stop acting like a movie star.”
He also said that the expulsion of diplomats from the American States Organization (OEA) and the threats to diplomatic missions in Tegucigalpa are “appalling and stupid” conducts.
“Zelaya’s return to Honduras is irresponsible and it doesn’t serve to the interest of the people nor those who seek the restoration of democratic order in Honduras,” said Amselem.
“Everything will be better if all parties refrain from provoking and inciting violence,” went on the American diplomat, who urged “all parties” to accept the San Jose Accord at once.
The diplomat recalled that the US had asked Zelaya “many times” since the coup to not attempt to return to Honduras until a political settlement was reached, because he was concerned about the current problems in Honduras.
Amselen has described the threats to diplomatic missions in Tegucigalpa as an “insult to the international community and to the OEA.
