Uruguay’s cigarette packs must show the risks of smoking
A new Act in Uruguay provides that cigarette packs must have on 80% of their surface, images linked to the most known dangers of smoking, like lung cancer or respiratory damage.
At the end of August the Public Health Ministry (MSP) of Uruguay ordered five new images and accompanying text which must be placed on packaging of cigarettes.
The image must occupy 50% of one of the two main faces of the pack, the accompanying text, 50% of the other main face.
Manufacturers of cigarettes must use each of the images and accompanying text on 20% of the packages for each brand that they place on the market in Uruguay.
