Iguazu Falls, first among 7 world wonder’s new selection
According to the official website New Seven Wonders, who selects the seven natural wonders by choosing the best destinations within 28 sites in the world, the Iguazú Falls were first in the ranking, – which surprised the very Members of the Committee Support Officer, comprised of representatives Brazilians and Argentines.
“This standing gives us strength to keep on working. Now we must ensure that it won’t fall from the seventh place until the end of the contest, next year,” said Gilmar Piolla, member of the committee. And added that through the Brazilian website enabled there, over 370 thousand people have voted since the 28 sites came to light.
Discovered by the Spanish conqueror Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1542, the Falls were declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1984 and can be visited both on the Argentine side, from where walkways lead closer to the dazzling waterfalls, as well as from Brazil, which offers a more complete picture of the natural spectacle.

The contest, which began in 2007, with 430 nominations submitted from 224 countries, will end in mid 2011 with the final announcement of the 7 winners.
