Government requests Honduran ambassador’s resignation
The Foreign Ministry demanded the Honduran ambassador Eleonora Carmen Ortez Williams to leave her duties in Argentina for her support to the coup that ousted Manuel Zelaya and installed the dictatorship in the Central American country.
The decision was made after the meeting that Taiana held last weekend with the deposed President of Honduras Manuel Zelaya, who viewed this action as a sign of support as Carmen Eleonora Ortez Williams publicly supoported Roberto Michetti’s dictatorship.
Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana and Zelaya met in Quito last weekend, where the president of Honduras requested the cessation of Ortez Williams’ functions of the Honduras Embassy in our country. Taiana ordered the “immediate notification” to the Honduran ambassador after the meeting.
Meanwhile, after a request from the Zelaya government’s foreign minister, Patricia Rhodes, the Government announced that diplomatic relations between Argentina and Honduras will be made through the Embassy of Honduras in United States.
“The government of President Zelaya sent a verbal note saying that the Honduran diplomat in Chile would cease to be ambassador,” said Chilean Foreign Minister, Mariano Fernandez.
