High cholesterol is related to Alzheimer’s
Kaiser Permanente, conducted studies related to high cholesterol levels and Alzheimer’s disease, and confirmed that “People who have high cholesterol levels are at higher risk of suffering Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia.”
The investigations were conducted in United States on about 10 thousand people, between 40 to 45 years of age for four decades.
Established weight, blood pressure (hypertension) and diabetes, the studies indicated that “there was a relationship between high cholesterol levels and dementia.”
The relationship between brain health and heart, was already under investigation by scientists who indicated that the first part of the study and concluded that there is a direct link between high cholesterol and dementia.
Practitioners maintain that “among participants with levels above the 240 points of cholesterol the risk of Alzheimer’s increased by 66%.”
And for those who showed a lower level, between 200 and 239, this risk decreased to 25%. ”
Gregg Fonarow, a cardiologist and professor of medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of California, said “If someone thought to control lipid levels, this is another reason to bring it to its optimal level.”
Physicians, in most cases able to prevent the risk of high cholesterol through dieting, changing habits, and in the latter case to help with medication.
Experts from Mayo Clinic, advised: “make daily exercise, stress reduction and a diet rich in olive oil, grains, fish, fiber, fruits, vegetables, and a small amount of red meat.”
“Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disease, progressive and incurable it usually manifests with memory loss, dementia and finally death.”
