Honduras: Attorney General Orders Arrest of President Manuel Zelaya
The Honduran Attorney General, Luis Alberto Rubí confirmed Tuesday that an order has been issued to arrest President Manuel Zelaya if he returns to the country on Thursday as he says.
The order was made on Monday night by Judge Maritza Arita and announced on Tuesday by the same judge over local radio stations.
The justice accuses Zelaya of eighteen crimes, among them ¨the betrayal of his country¨ and ¨abuse of authority¨. According to Rubi, the judicial authorities will issue an international order of arrest through Interpol.
Roberto Micheletti, the de facto president sworn after the democratically elected Honduran president was captured and forcibly expelled from the country stated the if Zelaya sets a foot in his country he will be arrested as the courts have an order to detain him.
According to Telesurtv.net, Robert Gibbs White House spokesman announced Tuesday that Zelaya will ¨probably¨ meet with US State Department officials if he travels to Washington on Wednesday before he goes back to Honduras.
It has been confirmed that Zelaya will be accompanied to Honduras by Argentinean President Cristina Fernández and president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa as well as José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Having many friends in Honduras the fear was tha Zelaya had rigged the referendum results and was going to use the “results” to justify a government takeover. Also this was not a coup as the military never took control of the country. The military was always under Judicial and Congressional (Honduran) control. A coup is when the military takes control of the branches of government. This did not take place.
