Minister of Federal Planning, Julio de Vido announced today that the Standardized Electronic Ticket System (SUBE) for the metropolitan area will be launched by June and that it will be compatible with the card systems already in place. “By June 22 we will have the entire process completed, including the installation of machines in central locations. From there, we will extend to the entire metropolitan area,”

He added that this month the remaining bids were opened, “so that we will be able to reach the goal set by President (Cristina Fernández de Kirchner). We are talking about 90 days, since the bidding process ends on May 22.”

For a sense of the magnitude of the process, de Vido stated that he was at the head of a project to create a standardized system “in one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas. We have 32 municipalities, including the city government, more than 15,000 buses, seven train, and six subway lines.”

He clarified that the card systems already in place in subways, and on the Urquiza and Ferrovía (Belgrano Norte) lines would not be eliminated, where the new system will be implemented by next Saturday.
